Brakes rarely fail without warning. Here are the five signs to listen and feel for.
1. A high squeal when you brake
Most brake pads have a small metal wear indicator. When the pad is nearly worn, it touches the disc and squeals. Book a check that week: waiting can turn a pad change into a disc change.
2. A grinding sound
Grinding usually means the pad material is gone and metal is touching the disc. Stop driving if you can and call us.
3. The pedal feels soft or sinks
A spongy pedal can mean air or moisture in the brake fluid, or a leak. It needs checking straight away.
4. The car pulls to one side
If the car drifts left or right when you brake, one side is braking harder than the other. A sticking caliper or uneven wear is a common cause.
5. Vibration through the pedal or steering wheel
A pulsing pedal or a shaking wheel under braking often points to uneven discs.
